Pet Food Recall List is Still Growing

April 12th, 2007 by jacky

The list of tainted pet food is growing. As late as Tuesday, April 10, 2007, Menu Foods of Ontario, Canada have added even more pet food to it’s contaminated list! This latest announcement is due to reports from the US FDA that the presence of melamine in cans of cuts and gravy pet food produced in Menu Foods’ Canadian production facility, contains wheat gluten supplied by ChemNutra. This wheat gluten was used in production from December 2006 through January 2007, thus expanding the list of tainted pet food products being recalled!

Have seen the total number of pet food products on the recalled list? Well, I count over 5500 pet food products on the list. Here is a link to the recalled list. Check it out for your self, it is in a spreadsheet format. Pet Lovers, know what you are feeding your pet, so that you keep them safe and healthy! For more information, go to the FDA.gov website here.

Here is a list of Cat Food added to the recall list!

Pet Food Recalled is Still on Store Shelves

April 12th, 2007 by jacky

When we thought that the pet food waters were safe to enter again, today, the FDA announce that tainted dog food products are still in circulation at some of our retail stores. However, the latest warning from the FDA is to alert pet food consumers that many retail stores may still have the recalled pet food on their shelves, we consumers should not assume because the products are still for sale, that they are safe for our pets to eat. One way to know that the tainted pet food had not been removed from the store shelves, is to notice that there are not any empty slots on the shelves, this would be a definite tell-tell sign.

The FDA has done a sample audit of about 400 stores in the nation, but did not add by name, stores that may still have contaminated pet food on the shelf. As stated by Stephen Sundlof, D.V.M., director of FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, they are going to continue to monitor the retail stores to make sure that our pets have safe food to eat!

” Many of us are pet owners and animal lovers, and we want pet owners to feel assured that we are doing everything we can to make sure that all contaminated food is off the shelves.”

We should be alert and aware of the type of pet food we buy for our pet family!

Pet Food Recall Expanded

April 9th, 2007 by jacky

There were 20 more dog and cat foods added to the list of recalled pet products on Thursday, April 5, 2007. Menu Foods expanded their list of tainted pet food products, to include another month back. Menu Foods issued a voluntary recall for “cuts and gravy” products manufactured back to Nov. 8, 2006. Its previous recall on March 16, involved more than 60 million cans and pouches, and covered a production period between Dec. 3, 2006, and March 6, 2007.

The new recall now covers five more cat food varieties and four more dog food varieties of the moist products, which were all manufactured with imported wheat gluten tainted by melamine, a toxic chemical used to make plastics. Read the rest of this entry »
